In the TERRA ALTA region, the wine growing has a tradition of centuries, and traditionally the wines from our land have been recognized and used to fortify wines from other areas. This fact brought us to the situation of creating the Denomination of Origin “TERRA ALTA in 1982. From then, onwards, the own characteristics of the terroir and the native varieties of the zone were strengthened. ALTAVINS VITICULTORS believe that these basic characteristics have to be enhanced as the principal value added to the wines of the region.

ALTAVINS VITICULTORS makes a severe control of the vineyards where grapes come out to make great wines. We specially evaluate the age of the vineyards, their health situation and their low productions. Following the said data, we select the vines from the different estates, according to the year rainfall and to the sunshine daily hours. Therefore, areas like Benufets, Massalocans, Serres and Mudefers, with different soils and different hydric balance are already selected form bringing to us the prime material for our wines.
Thus, this fact helps to have white grenaches of more than 45 years old, red Grenaches and carignan grapes older than 60 years and the oldest merlot and cabernet sauvignon of the region of Terra Alta which are older than 25 years.
The harvest if always done by picking up grapes by hand and the grapes reach the cellar for vinification in 20 Kg cases, in order to avoid the pressure in the prime materials.
